Split King vs. Divided King

Searching for a new adjustable bed base can be daunting with all of the different options available on the market. It can easily become confusing when you are trying to decide between a Split King Adjustable Bed or a Divided King Adjustable Bed.

What is a Split King Adjustable Bed?

In the simplest terms, a Split King Adjustable Bed Base is 2 Twin XL Adjustable Beds that sit side-by-side. Each Twin XL measures approximately 38" x 80" and may be operated independently. In the event that you choose to use each base independently then you will need 2 Twin XL mattresses.

If you own a Standard King mattress then you may also sync both Twin XL beds together. When both beds are synced together they will operate as one unit. This type of adjustable bed is ideal if you share a bed with a partner, but prefer your own personal settings. Each Twin XL unit also has its own set of motors which reduces the stress on the adjustable bed base over time.

What is a Divided King Adjustable Bed?

A Divided King is also known as a Standard King Adjustable Bed Base. A Divided King is split horizontally. The head and foot of the bed are two separate pieces that must be attached together during assembly. A Divided King Adjustable Bed Base is only compatible with a Standard King Mattress. In addition, the cost is lower than a Split King, since the adjustable bed only includes one set of motors.

Which Works Best For Me?

This entirely depends on you and your needs. A Split King Adjustable Bed Base is great for couples who prefer to adjust to their own preferred settings or for anyone who may be considering split mattresses in the future. On the other hand, a Divided King Adjustable Bed Base will allow you to sleep closer to your partner throughout the night and may be more budget friendly.
